Light spoilers for a hidden vendor route in Hunter’s March. This covers the location, price, and effect of the Fractured Mask (“Extra Mask”).
Overview
Fractured Mask is a Blue Tool that prevents one otherwise‑lethal hit, then shatters. It repairs automatically when you rest at a bench. Because it “saves” you from death once per outing, many players call it the “Extra Mask.” You can buy it from the hidden merchant Mottled Skarr in Hunter’s March for about 260 Rosaries.
Quick Facts
- What: Defensive Blue Tool — blocks a lethal blow, then breaks until bench repair.
- Where: Mottled Skarr (hidden shop), upper‑left side of Hunter’s March.
- Cost: ~260 Rosaries (bring a little extra in case of deaths).
- Helpful unlock: Wind Gliding via Drifter’s Cloak for easier updraft climbs — see Unlock Wind Gliding.
Location & Steps (Hunter’s March)
- Reach Hunter’s March. Enter from The Marrow, then sync the local bench and map if needed.
- Disarm the trapped bench. High on the left of the main shaft, pass the bench, break the left wall, flip the mechanism, then rest. This cuts retry time and lets you equip immediately.
- Climb to the top‑left. From the bench area, ride the updrafts (or careful pogo routes) toward the top. In the upper‑left room, hug the far‑left wall to find a hidden passage.
- Meet Mottled Skarr. The hidden corridor leads to the merchant. Purchase Fractured Mask (~260 Rosaries). If short on funds, see Rosaries for quick farms.
If Mottled Skarr dies later in your run, guides note the Fractured Mask can be found at his feet. Curveclaw relocates to a room above.
How It Works
- Effect text: “Old bug’s skull carved for protection. Shields against critical damage but shatters on impact. If shattered, it is repaired when resting at a bench.”
- Slot: Blue (part of Silksong’s Tool system). It behaves like having one extra hit until it breaks.
How to Equip
Rest at a bench, open Equipment, and slot Fractured Mask in a Blue Tool slot. Your available slots are governed by Crests; adjust your build to fit it if needed.
Tips
- Bench first, then shop: Unlock the bench before buying so you can equip and repair quickly.
- Bring 260+ Rosaries: Clear a couple of nearby rooms if you’re short; avoid dying on the way back.
- Great for bosses: Because it refreshes on rest, the mask is excellent for boss attempts where one extra mistake decides a run.
FAQ
- Does it stack with Mask Shards? Yes. Mask Shards raise max HP permanently. Fractured Mask prevents one lethal blow per outing, then needs bench repair.
- Is the vendor missable? No—he’s hidden, not missable. Use the top‑left hidden passage near the upper bench area; Wind Gliding makes the climb easier.
- Exact price? Community reports consistently list 260 Rosaries.
